The Glenstone Foundation is a private museum and sculpture garden located in Potomac, Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C. Founded in 2006 by Mitchell Rales and his wife Emily Wei Rales, the Glenstone Foundation is dedicated to the exhibition, conservation and interpretation of modern and contemporary art.

The Glenstone Foundation is best known for its extensive collection of contemporary art from the 1950s to the present day. It features artworks from a wide array of international artists, including Donald Judd, Jimmie Durham, Agnes Martin, and Andy Warhol. The foundation also hosts special exhibitions and programs such as artist residencies, lectures, symposia, and performances.

The foundation’s main building, which opened in October 2018, was designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners and houses the collection, as well as a library, lounge, and café. The building sits on a 230-acre landscape of rolling hills, meadows, woodlands, ponds, and streams, and includes a sculpture garden, a walking trail, and a reflecting pool.

The Glenstone Foundation’s mission is to provide a contemplative environment for visitors to experience art and nature in a meaningful way. Through its exhibitions, programs, and site, the foundation strives to create a place of beauty, reflection, and learning.
