Casa Malpais Foundation Inc is a non-profit organization located in Springerville, Arizona. The foundation was founded in 1980 with the mission to promote the preservation and public interpretation of the archaeological and natural history of the Casa Malpais site. The site is a multi-level archaeological ruin which dates back to the Ancient Puebloan period of the 13th century.

Casa Malpais Foundation Inc works in partnership with the US Forest Service, the Arizona State Historic Preservation office, and the local White Mountain Apache Tribe in order to protect and preserve the archaeological and natural history of the site. The foundation also provides educational programs, special events, and archaeological research opportunities for the public.

South facing The south-facing slopes of the West Fork's valley are dry and surprisingly warm. Across the river, at left here, conditions are entirely different. In Arizona, sun exposure is everything.
Just beyond the trailhead The West Baldy Trail #94 in Arizona's Apache National Forest follows the West Fork of the Little Colorado River up to an 11,200-foot-high ridge, with the endpoint of the trail about 0.8 mile north of the highest point in the White Mountains -- Mount Baldy at 11,421 feet. The summit is sacred to the White Mountain Apaches and is <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/asnf/about-forest/?cid=FSEPRD667233" rel="noreferrer nofollow">closed to those who are not members of the tribe</a>. Up and back on this trail is about 14.5 miles, with a 2200-foot accumulated elevation gain. (My Garmin showed the trailhead at 9,273 feet and the endpoint at 11,171 feet, plus or minus 30 feet.)
