The White Mountain Historical Society (WMHS) is a nonprofit organization based in Springerville, Arizona, that is dedicated to preserving the history of the White Mountains. The Society collects, preserves, and exhibits artifacts related to the White Mountains for educational purposes. WMHS is located in the historic building that formerly housed the Springerville post office.

The Society is staffed by volunteers and focuses on the history of the White Mountains from the time of the earliest residents to the present day. The Society's collections include photographs, documents, artifacts, and oral histories. The Society also maintains several permanent exhibits and hosts special events throughout the year.

In addition to its museum, the Society offers a variety of educational programs and activities for school groups, families, and adults. These include lectures, field trips, and special events. The Society also offers public access to its collections and a research library.

The Society is supported by memberships, donations, and grants, and volunteers are always welcome. The Society's goal is to educate and inform the public about the history and culture of the White Mountains.

South facing The south-facing slopes of the West Fork's valley are dry and surprisingly warm. Across the river, at left here, conditions are entirely different. In Arizona, sun exposure is everything.
Just beyond the trailhead The West Baldy Trail #94 in Arizona's Apache National Forest follows the West Fork of the Little Colorado River up to an 11,200-foot-high ridge, with the endpoint of the trail about 0.8 mile north of the highest point in the White Mountains -- Mount Baldy at 11,421 feet. The summit is sacred to the White Mountain Apaches and is <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/asnf/about-forest/?cid=FSEPRD667233" rel="noreferrer nofollow">closed to those who are not members of the tribe</a>. Up and back on this trail is about 14.5 miles, with a 2200-foot accumulated elevation gain. (My Garmin showed the trailhead at 9,273 feet and the endpoint at 11,171 feet, plus or minus 30 feet.)
