UPTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Uptown Historical Society (UHS) is a nonprofit organization located in Chicago, IL that works to document and preserve the history of the Uptown neighborhood. Established in 1974, the Society works to collect, preserve, and share the memories of the vibrant Uptown community, which is located in the city’s north side. The Society also conducts oral history projects and hosts cultural events throughout the year.

UHS operates a museum located in the historic Uptown Theatre Building. The museum offers visitors a chance to explore the area’s past through interactive exhibits, photographs, and artifacts. Permanent exhibits focus on the area’s development, its entertainment history, and the role of the Uptown community in the city’s history. The museum also hosts rotating exhibitions focusing on different aspects of the neighborhood’s past.

In addition to its museum, UHS also works to preserve the historic architecture of the Uptown neighborhood. Through its advocacy efforts, the Society has helped to save many of the area’s historic buildings from demolition. The Society also works with local businesses, government agencies, and other organizations to promote the economic and cultural revitalization of the area.
