The Williamson County Historical Society (WCHS) is a non-profit organization located in Marion, Illinois. Founded in 1975, the WCHS works to preserve, interpret, and disseminate the history of Williamson County and its people. The Society is dedicated to collecting and preserving the artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials that chronicle the history of the county. The Society also works to promote an understanding and appreciation of the county’s rich cultural heritage by providing educational and interpretive programs, exhibits, and publications.
The WCHS operates out of the Williamson County Museum, located in downtown Marion. The museum, which opened in 1982, is home to a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of Williamson County, as well as a research library, archives, and gift shop. The museum also hosts a variety of special events and programs, including lectures, guided tours, and workshops.
