The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. (HSW) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1894 to promote and preserve the history of the nation’s capital. Located in the vibrant Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, D.C., the HSW offers a variety of educational and public programs, as well as a research library and museum.
The HSW’s library contains over 30,000 volumes, including books, maps, newspapers, photographs, and manuscripts pertaining to the history of Washington, D.C. and the surrounding region. The library also houses an extensive collection of documents and artifacts related to local, national, and international events. The library is open to the public, and researchers can access the catalog and collections via the HSW website.
The HSW also operates a museum which features rotating exhibits.
