The Seabury Society for the Preservation of the Glebe House is a non-profit organization located in Woodbury, Connecticut. The society was founded in 1925 with the aim of preserving the historic Glebe House, a colonial-era building that served as a residence for the rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
The Glebe House was built in 1750 and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the country. In addition to its architectural significance, the house is also notable for its association with the American Revolution. During the war, the house served as a meeting place for the first Episcopal convention in the United States and was also used as a hospital for wounded soldiers.
The Seabury Society is dedicated to preserving the history and architecture of the Glebe House, as well as educating the public about its significance. The society offers tours of the house and grounds, as well as educational programs and events throughout the year.
In addition to its preservation efforts, the Seabury Society also works to maintain the surrounding gardens and grounds, which include a colonial herb garden, a formal garden, and a nature trail.
