The Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford CT is a world-renowned art museum founded in 1842. It was the first public art museum in the United States and is still one of the oldest continuously operating art museums in the country. The museum has a collection of more than 45,000 works of art, spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. The museum is comprised of six connected buildings, among them the original Wadsworth Atheneum building, The Aetna Gallery, The Morgan Great Hall, The Colt Memorial, and The Johnson Memorial Building.
