The Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame Inc. is a nonprofit organization that honors the achievements of athletes who have achieved excellence in the field of athletics in the Huntsville-Madison County area. The organization was founded in 1983 by a group of local citizens and business people who wanted to recognize the accomplishments of local athletes and inspire future generations to strive for excellence.

The Hall of Fame is located in the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library in Huntsville, AL. The Hall of Fame consists of over 250 members who have achieved excellence in the sports they have participated in. The Hall of Fame also recognizes coaches who have had success with their teams.

Since its founding, the Hall of Fame has held an annual induction ceremony. During the ceremony, a board of directors selects new inductees. The inductees are recognized for their performance in athletics and the positive impact they have made in the community.

The mission of the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame Inc. is to recognize and honor the accomplishments of athletes who have achieved excellence in the field of athletics within the Huntsville-Madison County area. The Hall of Fame also seeks to promote the values of sportsmanship, education, and leadership to future generations.

Rockets Away! 2012 Student Launch Projects (NASA, Marshall, 4/22/12) Specially crafted rockets soared high into the skies April 22 at the 2011-12 NASA Student Launch Projects challenge. More than 500 students, representing 53 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities in 28 states, launched rockets of their own design -- complete with working science payloads or engineering payloads -- at Bragg Farms in Toney, Ala.

The students vied to see whose rocket could come closest to the 1-mile altitude goal and safely return its onboard science payload to Earth. Fifty-one teams took part, though two faced mechanical or technical issues and did not launch. Ten preliminary awards were presented, and the grand prize -- $5,000 from ATK Aerospace Group in Salt Lake City, Utah -- will be awarded May 18 after final post-flight analysis and review are complete. This is the fifth year ATK has sponsored Student Launch Projects.

Great Moonbuggy Race, 1994 (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1994) The NASA Great Moonbuggy Race is an annual event, held at the US Space and Rocket Center and organized by the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in which high school and college students are challenged to design, build and race lightweight, human-powered moonbuggies that tackle many of the same engineering challenges dealt with by Apollo-era lunar rover developers at Marshall in the late 1960s.

This photograph of the University of Alabama at Huntsville moonbuggy team was taken during the first running of the event at Redstone Arsenal in 1994 over the actual course where the original lunar roving vehicles were tested. The 20th Annual Great Moonbuggy Race will take place April 26-27 at the US Space and Rocket Center.

TBEX Comes to NASA NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center hosted participants attending The Travel Blog Exchange conference for a tour of the center May 4, 2017. TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. The group toured facilities that are building hardware for the Space Launch System, NASA’s new rocket, and also got visit the Payload Operations Integration Center which monitors science experiments for the International Space Station 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year. Groups also learned about cutting edge technologies like friction stir welding and 3-D printing, and visited with Marshall scientists that are gathering information about our sun, Earth and planets in our solar system.

The Marshall Room (NASA, Marshall, 03/19/13) NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center Director Patrick Scheuermann, participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 11 for the chamber's newly named Marshall Room. Located at the chamber, the Marshall Room celebrates the rich history of Marshall and its importance to the Huntsville community.

2016 NASA in the Park More than 7,000 people attended NASA Marshall Space Center and Downtown Huntsville, Inc.’s third annual celebration of NASA and the community June 18. This year, the event moved to Huntsville’s Big Spring Park, becoming ‘NASA in the Park.’ The celebration featured fun for all ages, live music performed by Marshall team members and a special appearance by NASA astronaut Don Thomas.
