The Alabama Archives and History Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization that supports the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH) and its mission. Established in 2002, the Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting the state's vast historical resources. Its goal is to raise funds for the preservation and use of the ADAH's collections and programs.

The Foundation helps to fund vital programs and projects that benefit Alabama's citizens and visitors, including oral histories, documentary films, exhibitions, and special programs. It also supports the acquisition of archival material, preservation of the collections, and educational activities. In addition, the Foundation provides assistance to the ADAH in the form of financial support, scholarships, and program and project advice.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, which is composed of members of the public who are committed to advancing the ADAH's mission. An Advisory Committee, made up of citizens who have a demonstrated interest in the preservation of archives and history, provides guidance to the Board.

The Foundation works to involve the public in the process of preserving and promoting the state's history and heritage. It provides members of the public with the opportunity to become involved in the preservation of Alabama's historical documents and artifacts, and to help ensure that the state's history is kept alive for future generations.
