The Historic Garden League of Monterey, California, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1967 for the purpose of preserving, restoring, and maintaining the gardens, parks, and historic sites of Monterey. The League's mission is to ensure that the city's historic and cultural landscape is respected and preserved for future generations.

The League is composed of a diverse group of volunteers, from gardeners and horticulturists to historians and architects. The members of the League are dedicated to preserving and restoring the city's natural and cultural heritage. The League has helped to restore many of Monterey's historic gardens, parks, and landscapes, including the Presidio of Monterey, Monterey Old Town Historic District, and the Monterey Conference Center.

The League is also actively involved in the community, hosting events such as garden walks, lectures, and workshops. Through these activities, the League strives to educate and promote the appreciation of Monterey's unique cultural and natural heritage. The League also provides advice and assistance to the City of Monterey on preservation and restoration projects.

Startrails of Auriga over Monterey Bay Thirty-Six 20 second exposures (12 minutes) combined using the Startrails.exe program. Auriga can be seen in the North-Eastern sky. The green trail in the bay is from a passing boat.
Salinas / ‘guard animal’? (#0069) Getting closer to why I was visiting the park, I came across this unusual statue – again with no description. But, the fenced enclosure in the background is my real reason for visiting (forthcoming picture).
Pacific Grove / contrasts (# 0041) BTW, this picture is a good example of how direction on the Monterey Peninsula can be confusing, as I note in a comment below. We're actually looking NNE here across Monterey Bay -- the Pacific ocean is a little behind me, off my left shoulder. One way to get oriented is to note that the towers of Moss Landing generating plant are faintly visible near the left side of the picture. When I was stationed in Monterey in '67-'68, my barracks window looked over the bay and the sun set behind the barracks, seemingly over land (over the peninsula).
