The Centre County Historical Society in State College, PA is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the county’s history and educating the public about it. Founded in 1967, the Society has been actively collecting and preserving artifacts and documents related to the county’s history since then.

The Society’s collection includes over 20,000 photographs and over 15,000 artifacts such as tools, furniture, and clothing, as well as papers and documents. The Society also has an extensive library of books, manuscripts, and other sources related to the county’s history.

The Society offers a variety of educational programs to the public, such as lectures and classes, tours of historic sites, and research services. They also host several events throughout the year, including a Civil War reenactment, a Revolutionary War encampment, and a Victorian Christmas celebration.

The Centre County Historical Society is located in the historic Gamble Mill building in State College. It is open to the public Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Admission is free, though donations are welcome.

The Tree Top Startrail An image of Lyra was photographed through an opening in a dense forest. The photo was taken while camping in Penn Roosevelt State Park just south of State College, PA. The image was made of 46 twenty second exposures. (Canon T2i, Canon 8-15 f/4L lens @ 11mm, ISO 3200) The individual photos were stacked using StarStaX.
