The Portland Police Historical Society (PPHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Portland Police Bureau and the people who have served it. The PPHS was founded in 1998 to preserve and share the history of the Portland Police Bureau and its members. The Society's mission is to promote public awareness and understanding of the history of the Portland Police Bureau and its members by collecting, preserving, and displaying artifacts and records related to its history.
The PPHS holds meetings throughout the year, and offers tours of the Portland Police Museum. The museum was established in the former police station of the Portland Police Bureau, located in downtown Portland. It features a variety of displays, including a timeline of the Portland Police Bureau's history, a memorial to fallen officers, and a display of classic police uniforms and equipment.
The PPHS also offers educational programs for the public, including lectures on the history of the Portland Police Bureau, tours of the police museum, public forums, and a variety of other activities. Additionally, the PPHS publishes a quarterly newsletter to keep members informed of upcoming events and activities.
The PPHS is a member of the Oregon Historical Society, the Oregon State Archives, and the Oregon Law Enforcement Historical Society. The PPHS is a volunteer-run organization, and its members are passionate about preserving the history of the Portland Police Bureau.
