The Finnish-American Historical Society of the West Inc in Portland, Oregon, is a non-profit organization devoted to preserving, promoting and presenting the rich cultural heritage of Finnish-Americans in the Pacific Northwest. The Society was established in 1975 to collect, preserve and disseminate information about Finnish-American immigrants and their descendents. The Society sponsors a variety of events and programs, including the annual Finnish-American Summer Festival, which celebrates and shares the Finnish-American experience in the Pacific Northwest. The Society also sponsors lectures, seminars and other events that explore Finnish-American history, culture and traditions. Additionally, the Society maintains an extensive library collection of books, periodicals, newspapers, photographs and other materials that document the Finnish-American experience. The Society also publishes a quarterly journal that features articles, stories and photographs related to the Finnish-American experience in the Pacific Northwest. The Society is a member of the Association of Finnish-American Organizations and the National Association of Finnish-Americans. The Society is committed to preserving, promoting and celebrating the unique culture and traditions of Finnish-Americans in the Pacific Northwest.
