The Hampton Bays Historical & Preservation Society (HBHPS) was founded in 1974 in Hampton Bays, New York, with the mission of preserving and promoting the history of Hampton Bays and its surrounding communities. The society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to preserve and share the rich history of Hampton Bays and its surrounding communities through education, outreach, and advocacy.

The HBHPS is committed to preserving and protecting the historic sites, buildings, and landscapes of Hampton Bays and its surrounding areas. The society works to promote the appreciation of local history, with a focus on interpreting, preserving, and protecting the area's heritage. The society maintains a museum, archives, and library, and offers a variety of educational programs and activities for the community. In addition, the society provides a range of resources for local historians, genealogists, and other researchers.

The society also serves as a resource for local residents, providing information about local history, preservation efforts, and events. The HBHPS is dedicated to providing a forum for the public to discuss local history, and encourages the preservation of local sites and artifacts. The society is a proud member of the New York State Historical Association, and works in partnership with a number of other organizations to promote the history and heritage of Hampton Bays and its surrounding communities.

1964 New York World's Fair miniature train This miniature 16 inch gauge train was built by the Alan Herschel Company and delivered to the LIRR exhibit at the New York World’s Fair in March 1964. After being part of the LIRR exhibit at the 1964-65 World’s Fair, the train went to the Grumman Aerospace Corp. Calverton, NY site where it was a featured attraction at the annual Grumman Family Picnic. Upon closing of the Calverton site the train was given to the Village of Patchogue, NY which, in turn, donated it to the Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead, New York were it operates.

Long Island Rail Road Jordan Spreader W-93 Jordan Spreader W-93 was built for the Long Island Rail Road in 1948 with road number 437499 for East end plow and Maintenance of Way service. It was in service for about 50 years before it was retired. After sitting in storage in Speonk, NY. the Long Island Rail Road donated it to Twin Forks in 2001 and now sits at the Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead.
Various parts of Long Island Railroad No. 39 Long Island Railroad No. 39 is one of 31 Pennsylvania Railroad Class G5 4-6-0 steam locomotives built in the 1920s for the LIRR. Currently its boiler and firebox are residing at the Strasburg Railroad awaiting a possible restoration to operating condition one day while the rest of the engine resides at the Riverhead Railroad Museum of Long Island.
