Cooks Natural Science Museum in Decatur, AL is a family-friendly destination which offers a wide range of interactive exhibits, educational programs, and activities. Opened in 1961, the museum is designed to encourage exploration, discovery, and learning of the natural sciences and the environment.

The museum features a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits, including Dinosaur Alley which features life-sized replicas of dinosaur skeletons and fossils; the Discovery Room, which features hands-on activities and interactive displays; the Insectarium, which features live insects, spiders, and other arthropods; and the Nature Trail, which is a short hike through the woods with informational signs along the way.

The museum also offers a variety of educational programs for school groups and other organizations, including lectures and classes on topics such as geology, ecology, and natural history. Great Moonbuggy Race, 1994 (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1994) The NASA Great Moonbuggy Race is an annual event, held at the US Space and Rocket Center and organized by the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., in which high school and college students are challenged to design, build and race lightweight, human-powered moonbuggies that tackle many of the same engineering challenges dealt with by Apollo-era lunar rover developers at Marshall in the late 1960s. This photograph of the University of Alabama at Huntsville moonbuggy team was taken during the first running of the event at Redstone Arsenal in 1994 over the actual course where the original lunar roving vehicles were tested. LAGEOS I Laser Geodynamics Satellite (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 1976) The LAGEOS I, Laser Geodynamics Satellite, was launched on May 4,1976 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. The two-foot diameter, 900-pound satellite orbited the Earth from pole to pole and measured the movements of the Earth's surface relative to earthquakes, continental drift, and other geophysical phenomena. The mirrored surface of the satellite precisely reflected laser beams from ground stations for accurate ranging measurements. Scientists at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. came up with the idea for the satellite and built it at the Marshall Center. TBEX Comes to NASA NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center hosted participants attending The Travel Blog Exchange conference for a tour of the center May 4, 2017. TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. The group toured facilities that are building hardware for the Space Launch System, NASA’s new rocket, and also got visit the Payload Operations Integration Center which monitors science experiments for the International Space Station 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year. NASA Social (Feb 2, 2015)3 State of NASA event at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center on Monday, Feb. 2 On Monday, Feb. 2 NASA Marshall invited social media followers to an in-person State of NASA event. The event included a tour of the center which showcased highlights of the work Marshall is doing on the Space Launch System, NASA’s new heavy lift rocket. Another tour segment included the development and maintenance on the advanced life support systems on the International Space Station, as well as the life support systems that could be used on future exploration missions to Mars and other deep space destinations. Structural Test Stand for Space Launch System Taking Shape The twin towers of a 215-foot-tall structural test stand for NASA's Space Launch System (SLS), the world's most powerful rocket for human space exploration, take shape at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. After construction is completed, hydraulic cylinders at Test Stand 4693 will push and pull the liquid hydrogen tank of the SLS’s massive core stage to subject the tank and hardware to the same loads and stresses they will endure during launch. Test Stand 4693 is being built in Marshall's West Test Area on the foundation of the stand where the Apollo Saturn V F-1 engine was tested during the 1960s.
