The Old State Bank in Decatur, Alabama, is a historic bank building that has been standing since its construction in 1882. The two-story structure is of brick construction with a red-brick façade. It originally served as a branch of the Bank of the State of Alabama and remained in operation until the early 1900s.

The exterior of the building has remained largely unchanged throughout its history. It features a central entrance with a three-bay façade, two rectangular windows on the second floor, and a corbeled cornice with a dentilated frieze. On either side of the entrance, there are two additional windows with corbeled brickwork.

In 2014, the Old State Bank was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The building serves as a reminder of the area’s banking history, as well as a testament to the importance of the financial industry in early 19th-century Decatur.

Today, the Old State Bank serves as a reminder of the city’s history and is open to the public. It is also used as a venue for special events, such as weddings and meetings. The building is located on the corner of Bank Street and Walnut Street and is just a few blocks away from the Decatur Courthouse.

TBEX is the largest conference and networking event for travel bloggers, online travel journalists and social media enthusiasts. Preparation for Pouring the Concrete Foundation of Test Stand 4697 A crane, at right, puts reinforcing steel in place in October 2014 to prepare for pouring the concrete foundation of Test Stand 4697 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The structural test stand is one of two new stands under construction at Marshall that are critical to development of the Space Launch System. SLS will be the world's most powerful rocket for human space exploration, able to carry astronauts in the Orion spacecraft on deep-space missions, including the journey to Mars. The 85-foot-tall Test Stand 4697 will use hydraulic cylinders to subject the liquid oxygen tank and hardware of the massive SLS core stage to the same loads and stresses it will endure during a launch. The stand is rising in Marshall's West Test Area, where work is also underway on the 215-foot-tall towers of Test Stand 4693, which will conduct similar structural tests on the SLS core stage's liquid hydrogen tank. The structure at left in this photo is Test Stand 4699, which is used for Integrated Spacecraft and Payload Element Structural Tests. First Journey of the Palaemon Barge (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 04/17/61) On April 17, 1961, NASA's Palaemon barge embarked on its first journey from the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Ala., to Cape Canaveral, Fla. The barge carried a simulated Saturn I booster and dummy third stage, plus a 10-man crew from MSFC's Test Division. The 180-foot Palaemon and its tug traveled from the Tennessee River to the Ohio, down the Mississippi, across the Gulf of Mexico, up the Atlantic Coast, and arrived at the Cape Canaveral launch site on April 30. Named for the Greek sea-god and protector of ships, Palaemon transported Saturn stages to and from MSFC through the Apollo years. Launch of Saturn vehicle, SA-1 (NASA, Marshall, Archive, 10/61) On October 27, 1961, the nation looked on as the first Saturn vehicle, SA-1, lifted off from Cape Canaveral and soared to an altitude of 137 kilometers before splashing down 344 kilometers downrange into the Atlantic Ocean. Developed at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. under the direction of Dr. Wernher von Braun, SA-1 incorporated a Saturn I, Block I engine and was the product of three long years of development. The flight of SA-1 demonstrated the vehicle’s structural integrity, verified the concept of the clustered Saturn booster, and inspired confidence in the Marshall team. First Stages of the Saturn IB Rockets at Michoud Assembly Facility (Archive: NASA, Marshall, 01/68) In January 1968, the Saturn V S-IVB stage that housed the orbital workshop, which was renamed Skylab was unloaded from the Super Guppy, the NASA plane built to carry oversized cargo, at Redstone Airfield in Huntsville, Ala. The workshop measured 22 feet (6.7 meters) in diameter, and 48 feet (14.6 meters) in length. The Saturn V S-IVB stage was modified at the McDonnell Douglas facility at Huntington Beach, Calif., for a new role as America's first space station. In the background is Fleming's "The Big Turtle" made in 2009 of bronze in memory of Elizabeth Ann Vickery.
