MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

EAST LANSING, MI

Lettering, names, and weathering all point to the 1970s How different the economy, cost of living, and daily preoccupations and aspirations then versus now. Seeing this time traveler from a business long gone hearkens back to world and local events from about 50 years ago.

The street name is Railroad Street, but the last passenger service ended in the early 1970s and the final freight train was later in the 1980s. By the early 2000s the rail-trail conversion was well underway on the CIS (Clinton, Ionia, Shiawassee) east-west route for joggers, walkers, and bicyclists (skiers in winter). But the street name lives on to remind people of those earlier times.
