The Dexter Area Museum is located in the heart of downtown Dexter, Michigan. Founded in 1980, the museum focuses on preserving and sharing the history and heritage of Dexter, Michigan and its surrounding area. The museum is housed in the former First National Bank building, which was built in 1884.

The museum features over 3,000 artifacts, including photographs, documents, and objects. Exhibits focus on the history of the Dexter community, ranging from the city’s founding in 1824 to life in the area during the 20th century. Additionally, the museum houses a collection of artifacts from the nearby Pinckney State Recreation Area.

The museum also offers educational programs and events throughout the year, including lectures and workshops. Other offerings include a monthly book club, a summer movie series, and a variety of programs and activities related to Dexter’s history.

The Dexter Area Museum is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday, from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free, although donations are welcome. Visitors can explore the museum’s exhibits and learn about the community’s history and culture.
