The Historical Society of Watertown (HSW) is an educational and cultural organization dedicated to preserving the history of Watertown, Massachusetts and its surrounding area. Founded in 1894, the HSW has grown to become one of the oldest and most respected historical societies in the state. The HSW is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director.
The HSW’s primary mission is to serve as a resource for students, researchers, and the general public who wish to learn more about the Watertown area. The society’s collections include a wide range of artifacts and documents, including photographs, newspapers, maps, and manuscripts, as well as oral histories, oral interviews, and other ephemera related to Watertown’s past.
The HSW is open to the public and offers a variety of educational and cultural programs and events, such as lectures, workshops, and exhibits. The society holds an annual meeting and awards ceremony, at which members are recognized for their contributions to the Watertown community. The HSW is also involved in local civic events and works with other organizations to help preserve and promote Watertown’s history.
