LITCHFIELD, IL

Old Livingston High School (Pink Elephant Antiques), Veterans Memorial Drive and Livingston Avenue, Livingston, IL Built in 1926-1927 and expanded with a rear addition in 1949, this Classical Revival and Art Moderne-style building served as the public high school of Livingston, Illinois until it was consolidated with schools in other nearby towns in 2004. The school features an older Classical Revival-style north wing, which originally contained classrooms, a gymnasium in the basement, a large study hall and library on the second floor, and was renovated in 1949 with the conversion of the former gymnasium into additional classrooms, following the addition of the gymnasium wing on the rear of the building. The original building features a red brick exterior, stone and buff brick trim, decorative patterned brickwork, large window bays, a projected entrance bay, a stepped parapet, and a raised basement, and a rear wing that originally contained the gymnasium and study hall, which features exterior brick piers and glass block infill at the original window openings, and a standing seam metal-clad one-story side addition with a shed roof. The rear wing was added in 1949 to contain a larger gymnasium and allow for additional classrooms to be created within the original building, with the gymnasium within the addition featuring a stage for live performances and assemblies, replacing the original performance area in the second-story study hall. The addition is clad in red brick with concrete trim, a projected entrance vestibule with Art Deco-style lettering, decorative brick banding and glass block windows, a lower stage house, and additions on the side that include a shed-roof addition with a porch that houses a diner, and a Twistee Treat ice cream stand. After the school closed in 2004, the building was renovated for adaptive reuse as the Pink Elephant Antique Mall, which remains in the building today.
