Healthy Lands Healthy People (HLHP) is an environmental program in Godfrey, Illinois that works to protect and restore the environment, promote public health, and build community. HLHP engages community members in meaningful activities that protect and restore natural resources, preserve the quality of life, and promote economic development. The program focuses on activities such as native plant restoration, rain garden construction, streambank stabilization, tree planting, and community engagement.

The HLHP program works to protect and restore the environmental health of Godfrey’s lands by managing invasive species, controlling soil erosion, and planting native species. HLHP also works to promote public health by increasing access to healthy food and safe recreational areas, developing neighborhood green spaces, and providing education and outreach on environmental health. Finally, the program works to build community by engaging local citizens in the restoration of natural areas, organizing volunteer events, and hosting educational workshops.

Additionally, HLHP is a partnership between the Village of Godfrey, The Nature Conservancy, the Godfrey Park District, the University of Illinois Extension, and the Madison County Health Department. Through this partnership, HLHP is able to leverage expertise and resources to better protect and restore the environment, promote public health, and build community.
