The Jones House in Pontiac, Illinois is a landmark home located at the corner of North Mill and East North Streets. Built in 1856, the house is an example of Italianate architecture popular in the mid-19th century. The home was originally owned by John and Letitia Jones, who were among the first settlers in the community. The house has a two-story brick structure, with a steeply pitched roof, a decorative cornice and bracketing, and a large porch with columns across the front. Inside, the house has a large central hall with a winding staircase, along with a formal parlor, dining room, family room and kitchen.
The Jones House is the oldest existing house in Pontiac, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years it has been lovingly restored and maintained, and is now open to the public. The house features period furnishings and artifacts, giving visitors a look into the past. Visitors can explore the house and learn about its history, as well as take part in special events such as lectures, tours, and holiday celebrations. The Jones House is an important part of the city's history, and a reminder of the past.
