Knox County Historical Sites, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Galesburg, Illinois. Established in 1961, the organization focuses on preserving and restoring local historical sites, artifacts, and documents in the Knox County area. As part of this mission, the organization maintains and operates seven sites: the Galesburg Railroad Museum, Knox County Poor Farm, the Old Sandburg Home, the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Site, the Old Main Street Inn, the Old County Jail, and the Old Galesburg City Hall.

The Galesburg Railroad Museum is a popular attraction and features a variety of artifacts and memorabilia from the area’s railroad history. The Knox County Poor Farm was established in 1854 to provide assistance to the poor, and is now a museum with displays on the lives of those who lived there. The Old Sandburg Home is the historic home of poet Carl Sandburg, and the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Site marks the spot of the famous 1858 debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas. The Old Main Street Inn is a restored hotel from the 1800s, the Old County Jail is a former prison, and the Old Galesburg City Hall is where Abraham Lincoln gave his famous “Lost Speech” in 1856.

The organization also offers a variety of educational and cultural programs, including guided tours of the sites, lectures and presentations, and special events. Knox County Historical Sites, Inc. works to provide an understanding of the history of Knox County, and promote appreciation of its cultural heritage. The organization serves as an invaluable resource for historians, researchers, and the general public.
