The Arizona Historical Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Arizona. Established in 1965, it has grown to become one of the largest and oldest historical organizations in the state. The Foundation is based in Gilbert, Arizona and is supported by over 1,000 members across the state. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Arizona for visitors, researchers, and future generations.
The Foundation operates numerous programs and initiatives designed to promote Arizona history and preservation. It manages four museum sites throughout the state: the Arizona Historical Society Museum and Archives in Tucson, the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum in Phoenix, the Pioneer Museum in Flagstaff, and the Yuma Territorial Prison Museum. The Foundation also offers field trips, research grants, and educational programs to support its mission.
The Foundation also publishes books and periodicals related to Arizona history, and provides a grant program to support historical preservation projects. It also serves as an advocate for the preservation of historic sites throughout the state, and works with local and state governments to secure funding for such projects.
