The Arizona Zoological Society (AZS) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and habitat in Arizona. Founded in 1965, the AZS has been providing educational and recreational opportunities to the people of Phoenix and its surrounding areas for over 50 years.
The AZS is located in the heart of Phoenix and is home to over 500 animals from more than 100 species. The zoo is divided into four distinct areas: Arizona’s Desert Animals, African Animals, South American Animals, and Asian Animals. Each area contains a variety of habitats, from the desert to the rainforest, so visitors can get a taste of the diversity of habitats that can be found in the world.
The AZS also offers educational programs for both adults and children, as well as special events such as Zoo Lights, which is an annual holiday event featuring thousands of colorful lights and festive decorations. Additionally, AZS has a variety of volunteer opportunities where visitors can help take care of the animals or do other important tasks around the zoo.
