The Historical Society of Washington County Illinois in Nashville IL is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history, culture, and heritage of Washington County, Illinois. Founded in 1971, the society collects, preserves, and interprets documents, artifacts, and photographs pertaining to the history of Washington County and makes them available to the public. The society’s collections include photographs, maps, books, newspapers, genealogical records, oral histories, and other materials related to Washington County’s past.

The Society operates the Washington County Museum and the Old Union School in Nashville. The Museum houses the Society’s collections and offers educational programs, special events, and exhibits on various aspects of Washington County history. The Old Union School is a one-room schoolhouse that has been restored to its original condition.

The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter, organizes lectures, field trips, and other activities, and maintains a website that features a searchable database of Washington County records and resources. The Society is an active member of the Illinois State Historical Society and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Society is entirely supported by memberships, donations, and grants. Membership is open to anyone interested in the history of Washington County, Illinois. The Society welcomes new members and encourages all to become involved in preserving and sharing the history of Washington County.
