MAMMOTH HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Mammoth Historical Society was founded in 1975 with the mission of preserving and promoting the history of Mammoth, Arizona. Located in the heart of the historic mining town, the Society works to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts, manuscripts and other materials pertaining to the town's history and culture.

The Society is housed in the former Mammoth Post Office and Jail, an old red-brick building that was constructed in 1889. Inside, the Society has created a museum that showcases a wide range of artifacts, such as original mining equipment, photographs and maps, household items and more. They also have a library and research center, and they offer a variety of programs, events and tours throughout the year.

The Society also works to preserve the town's historic buildings, many of which are still standing today. These buildings include the Mammoth Hotel (built in 1861), the Mammoth Bank (built in 1885) and the Mammoth Saloon (built in 1883). The Society also maintains a small cemetery on the outskirts of town, where many of the town's original settlers are buried.

The Mammoth Historical Society works to ensure that the history of Mammoth is never forgotten, and that future generations can learn about the town's unique heritage. They are an important part of the community, and their efforts are greatly appreciated by the people of Mammoth and beyond.
