The Newnan Coweta Historical Society (NCHS) is a nonprofit organization located in Newnan, Georgia. Founded in 1975, the Society was established to preserve the history and culture of Coweta County. The NCHS works to accomplish this goal through the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of the area’s rich history.
The NCHS operates the Coweta County Historical Museum in downtown Newnan. The museum features a variety of displays, including exhibits on the Civil War, Native American artifacts, and local histories. The museum also offers educational programs for students and adults, such as lectures, interactive tours, and special events.
The NCHS also maintains an extensive archive of documents, photographs, and artifacts related to the history of Coweta County. The archive is available for research by the public, and is used by scholars and genealogists.
The Society is active in the preservation of historical sites throughout Coweta County. The NCHS works with local governments and other organizations to identify and protect historic sites, and to promote their preservation. In addition, the organization assists with research and restoration projects, and provides educational and public outreach programs.
The NCHS is funded primarily by membership dues, donations, and grants. Membership is open to anyone interested in preserving the history of Coweta County.
