The Capitol Historic Trust is a non-profit organization established in 2000 to protect and preserve the history of the United States Capitol. It is dedicated to the preservation, maintenance and interpretation of the Capitol’s cultural and architectural legacy, which includes the Capitol Building, the surrounding grounds and the Capitol Visitor Center.

The Trust's mission is to preserve, protect and interpret the historic places, objects, artifacts and documents associated with the United States Capitol, so that future generations can appreciate the Capitol's unique role in our national story. The Trust works with the Architect of the Capitol, Congress and the public to ensure that the Capitol remains a national icon and symbol of the United States.

The Trust's efforts include restoring and preserving the Capitol Building and grounds, conserving and interpreting its art, artifacts and documents, and developing educational programs and materials. The Trust also sponsors public tours, lectures, symposia, and other special events designed to educate the public about the Capitol and its history.

The Capitol Historic Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization, supported by donations and grants. Its Board of Directors is composed of distinguished members of the community and includes representatives from the Architect of the Capitol, Congress, the National Park Service, the Smithsonian Institution and other organizations.
