ASA was established in 1994 to promote and preserve Ataturk's vision of a modern, secular and democratic Turkey and to foster ties between Turkey and the United States. The society also serves as a voice for Ataturk's ideals in the United States, by engaging in advocacy and outreach activities to promote understanding of Turkey and its culture. It reaches out to the public, government officials, and the media to raise awareness of Ataturk's legacy and of the importance of Turkey in the world.
