SHERIDAN-KALORAMA CALL BOX RESTORATION COMMITTEE

WASHINGTON, DC

The Sheridan-Kalorama Call Box Restoration Committee (SKCBR) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. Founded in 1994, the organization is dedicated to preserving and restoring the unique, historic call boxes located throughout the city. The call boxes, which were first installed in the late 19th century, are a unique aspect of DC’s history and culture.

SKCBR’s mission is to ensure that these boxes are maintained, restored, and preserved for future generations. The organization works to identify and preserve any existing or lost call boxes, provide technical assistance and resources to area residents who wish to restore and maintain their own call boxes, and to educate the public about the history and importance of these boxes.

The organization also works to promote the preservation of other historic artifacts and to provide support to community-based organizations throughout the city. SKCBR has been involved in numerous restoration projects throughout the city, including projects in the Capitol Hill, Dupont Circle, and Georgetown neighborhoods.

SKCBR holds regular meetings and events, such as lectures, tours, and workshops, in order to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the city’s historic artifacts. The organization also works with businesses, museums, and other organizations to promote the preservation of call boxes.

SKCBR is supported by donations from individuals and businesses, as well as grants from organizations such as the DC Preservation League. The organization also benefits from the volunteers who donate their time and expertise to help restore and maintain the call boxes.
