The Smithsonian Institution's Anacostia Community Museum (ACM) is an educational, cultural, and research center dedicated to exploring the history, culture, and contemporary issues of Washington D.C.’s Anacostia neighborhoods and other communities. Located in the historic Anacostia neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., the museum is the first federally funded community museum in the United States and a major part of the Smithsonian Institution.

The ACM was established in 1967 and opened to the public in 1974. It has since become a major center for the study of urban history and culture in the United States. The museum features a variety of permanent and changing exhibitions that explore the history and culture of American communities of color. The ACM also offers a variety of educational programs and events such as field trips, workshops, lectures, and other activities.

The ACM also houses a research library, an archives, and a collection of over 10,000 artifacts, photographs, and documents. The library and archives are open to the public and contain a wealth of resources on the history, culture, and contemporary issues of Washington D.C.’s Anacostia neighborhoods.
