COMPANY F 14TH REGIMENT CT VOLUNTEER INFANTRY 1862-1865

Company F of the 14th Regiment of Connecticut Volunteer Infantry was a military unit that served in the American Civil War from 1862 to 1865. The company was based in Somers, Connecticut, and consisted of approximately 100 men.

The unit was formed in response to President Abraham Lincoln's call for volunteers to fight for the Union in the Civil War. Most of the men who joined Company F were farmers or tradesmen from the Somers area.

The company participated in several battles during the Civil War, including the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, and the Battle of Chancellorsville. They also played a role in the Appomattox Campaign, which led to the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and the end of the war.

During their service, the men of Company F faced many challenges, including poor living conditions, food shortages, and the risk of injury or death in battle. Despite these difficulties, they remained committed to their cause and played an important role in defending the Union.

After the war ended, the men of Company F returned to Somers and were honored for their service. Today, their legacy is remembered through memorials and historical markers throughout the town.
