The Glacier Society is a non-profit organization based in Stratford, Connecticut. It was founded in 1986 by Admiral Eugene P. Wilkinson, a retired naval officer, and a group of dedicated volunteers who shared his passion for preserving maritime history. The mission of the Glacier Society is to acquire, restore, and preserve historic vessels and artifacts that represent America's seafaring heritage.

The centerpiece of the Glacier Society's collection is the USCGC Glacier, a former United States Coast Guard icebreaker that was decommissioned in 1987. The vessel was built in 1955 and served in both the Arctic and Antarctic regions during its 33-year career. Today, the Glacier is moored at the organization's headquarters in Stratford, where it serves as a museum and education center.

In addition to the Glacier, the Glacier Society has acquired and restored several other historic vessels, including the SS United States, a luxury liner that was once the fastest passenger ship in the world. The society also has an extensive collection of maritime artifacts, including ship models, paintings, and navigational instruments.

The Glacier Society is dedicated to educating the public about America's maritime heritage and inspiring future generations of sailors, engineers, and maritime enthusiasts. The society offers a variety of educational programs and events throughout the year, including lectures, tours, and hands-on activities for children and adults.
