The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in New Canaan, Connecticut, is a National Historic Landmark, one of the earliest and most intact Second Empire-style mansions in the United States. Built in 1864-1868, the 70-room mansion was designed by the renowned architect Detlef Lienau for banker and financier LeGrand Lockwood. The house is owned by the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1972 to preserve, interpret, and protect the Mansion and its collections.

The Museum provides a variety of educational and cultural programs, including lectures, concerts, and exhibitions, as well as educational programs for school groups and other organizations. The Museum also offers community outreach programs and volunteers for tours, special events, and for assistance in the Mansion’s preservation and restoration efforts.

Each year, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum hosts a variety of special events, programs, and exhibitions related to the Mansion’s history, architecture, and collections. The Mansion also serves as a venue for a variety of community events, such as the New Canaan Garden Club’s annual Flower Show and the New Canaan Historical Society’s Winter Antiques Show.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum is supported by contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations, and other organizations. The Museum also receives grants and funding from the State of Connecticut and the National Park Service. The Board of Directors of the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, Inc., oversees the Museum’s operations and is responsible for preserving and interpreting the Mansion and its collections for the benefit of the public.
