The Rimrocker Historical Society of Western Montrose County, Inc., located in Nucla, Colorado, was founded in 1977 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of the Western Slope of Colorado. The Society works to preserve and interpret the history of the area, including the San Miguel and Uncompahgre Plateaus, the San Juan Mountains, and the Unaweep Canyon. The Society oversees the operation of the Rimrocker Museum, located in Nucla, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts from the area, including Native American artifacts, early Americana, and historic photographs.

The Rimrocker Historical Society also sponsors a variety of educational programs, including lectures and workshops, field trips, and annual conferences. The organization also produces a quarterly newsletter, which keeps members informed about upcoming events and activities. Additionally, the Society maintains a library, which is open to the public and contains an extensive collection of books, maps, and other materials related to the history of the Western Slope.

The Rimrocker Historical Society is the only organization in Western Montrose County dedicated to the preservation of the area’s history. Through their educational programs and collections, they strive to ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate and understand the area’s rich history.
