The Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society (FCMRS) is a non-profit organization located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The society is dedicated to the preservation and operation of vintage trolley cars in the city. FCMRS offers a unique experience to visitors by taking them on a ride on one of the historic trolley cars that were once a common sight in the city.
The society was established in 1980 by a group of volunteers who were interested in preserving the city's trolley history. Today, FCMRS operates two vintage trolley cars that were built in the early 1900s. The trolley cars have been restored to their original condition and are fully operational, providing an authentic experience of what it was like to ride on a trolley in the early 20th century.
FCMRS operates on weekends from May through September and offers tours of the trolley barn and museum. Visitors can also take a ride on the trolley cars and enjoy the scenic route through the historic downtown area of Fort Collins. The society also offers special events and educational programs for schools and groups.
In addition to preserving the city's trolley history, FCMRS is committed to promoting sustainable transportation and reducing the use of cars. The society's trolley cars are powered by electricity, making them an eco-friendly alternative to traditional gas-powered vehicles.
