NORTH POINT LIGHTHOUSE

North Point Lighthouse is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been a part of the city’s maritime history since its construction in 1855. The lighthouse is located at the end of a breakwater in Lake Michigan and stands at 70 feet tall. It is a two-story brick building with a circular tower at the center, which houses the light. The light itself is a fourth-order Fresnel lens, which was originally fueled by lard oil and was later replaced by electricity. The light has been automated since 1985 and flashes a white light every seven and a half seconds. The lighthouse also has a fog signal which is activated during times of poor visibility, and it is a diaphone made up of two horns that sound a four-second blast every 20 seconds.

The North Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open to the public for tours. It is a popular destination for visitors to Milwaukee who are interested in learning about the city’s maritime history.
