The Donner Summit Historical Society (DSHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of Norden, California. Located in Norden, a small community situated in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the DSHS was founded in 1985 and has since developed a vibrant program of activities and events to educate and engage the public in their history and heritage.
The DSHS preserves the history of Norden by collecting artifacts, photographs, and documents, as well as oral histories from the area’s early pioneers. These materials are then used to create exhibits, publications, and other educational materials. The DSHS also offers a research library and archive, as well as a museum that houses a variety of artifacts from the area’s past.
The DSHS produces a variety of events, including lectures, workshops, guided tours, and the annual Donner Summit Heritage Festival. This festival celebrates the area’s history and culture with live music, storytelling, and educational activities. The DSHS also publishes a quarterly newsletter and produces a variety of educational materials to share the history and culture of Norden with the public.
