PITTSVILLE AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

PITTSVILLE, WI

The Great Swamp of Wisconsin Not a typical view for Wisconsin - flat open land stretching as far as you can see, with hills rising almost like a mountain range on the horizon.

This is the Great Central Wisconsin Swamp, as seen from the observation tower in the Dike 17 area of the Black River State Forest. The "Great Swamp" is one of my favorite areas of Wisconsin, and it is often overlooked.

This is a scan of a print from fall 1999. I don't know the exact coordinates for the tower, but the DNR parking area is on the west side of North Settlement Road, about 13 miles east of Black River Falls.
