Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation Inc in Wellsburg, WV, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor the men and women of Brooke County who served in the military. Established in 2004, it is a tribute to all of the brave men and women from the county who served, and continues to serve, in the United States Armed Forces. The Foundation seeks to recognize their service and sacrifice to their country.

The Foundation is dedicated to restoring and beautifying the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park, located in Wellsburg. The Park is a place where citizens can come to reflect and remember the sacrifices made by their loved ones and neighbors. The Park includes a variety of monuments and memorials, including a Veterans Memorial Wall and a Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The Foundation also works to provide educational programs and events that honor the military, including Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations. Additionally, the Foundation works to provide financial assistance to veterans and their families, as well as scholarships to local students who are the children or grandchildren of veterans.

The Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation is a testament to the service and sacrifice made by local veterans and their families. It is a reminder of the courage and dedication of these brave men and women, and their commitment to protecting the freedoms we enjoy.

Mount Wood Overlook, Mount Wood Road, East Wheeling, Wheeling, WV Built in the 1920s as the foundation of a planned residence and clinic by Dr. Andrew J. Harness, prior to his arrest and conviction of illegal drug sales in 1925, this structure has since become a public overlook with sweeping views of the city of Wheeling below.

The city regained its status as the state capital in 1875, in part due to its status as the richest and most populous city in the state of West Virginia, but lost its status once again to Charleston in 1885, this time permanently. The city was a major manufacturing center for steel and iron products, especially nails, a major transportation hub, as it sat at the intersection of the Ohio River and the National Road, and several major tobacco companies. The city’s population and industrial prowess peaked in the 1930s, but the effects of the Great Depression, worsened by the 1936 Ohio River Flood, which inundated Wheeling Island and many other areas of the city, led to the population and economy to begin to stagnate, before facing a downward trend. The loss of jobs and population has continued ever since.
