APVA Preservation Virginia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting Virginia's historic places. Founded in 1889, APVA has been a leader in the state's preservation movement for more than a century. Based in Richmond, Virginia, APVA works to identify, preserve, and interpret Virginia's cultural heritage to the public.
APVA is committed to preserving Virginia’s endangered historic sites in the most cost-effective way possible. The organization works with state and local governments, private individuals, and other organizations to ensure the protection of historic sites. APVA also works to increase public awareness about Virginia's historic places and to promote their appreciation and use.
APVA offers a variety of services to Virginia's historic sites. These include technical assistance to help owners and developers understand and comply with historic preservation regulations, grants and loans to assist with preservation projects, and educational programs to help educate the public about Virginia's historic sites. APVA also works to protect state-owned historic sites and to encourage private stewardship of endangered sites.
APVA's commitment to preservation is evident in its success in preserving Virginia's rich cultural heritage. Since 1889, APVA has played a major role in the protection of more than 500 of the state's most significant historic sites.
