The Russell County Historical Commission in Phenix City, AL was established in 1973 to preserve and promote the history of Russell County and its surrounding area. The Commission works to collect, preserve and disseminate historical information on the county's past and present. It also provides educational and public programs to promote local history, as well as to conserve and protect the county’s historical resources.

The Commission is composed of nine members appointed by the Russell County Board of Commissioners, and is chaired by a county resident. The Commission is responsible for preserving and maintaining the historic resources of the county, including sites, monuments, documents and other artifacts. It also works to promote public awareness of the county's history through educational programs and initiatives.

The Commission sponsors a variety of activities to highlight and honor the county's rich history. These include lectures and workshops, walking tours, historic markers and markers, historic sites tours, and much more. The Commission also works to preserve and protect historic buildings and sites, as well as to promote local heritage tourism. The Commission is also involved in the preservation of the county's archaeological sites, and works with local and state agencies to manage and protect these sites.
