The Rustic style building was constructed 1938-40 as a New Deal Works Progress Administration (WPA) project. The gym was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 as a contributing resource to the Blinn College Historic District (NRHP District No. 90000446). Blinn College is a public junior college with its main campus in Brenham, Texas. Blinn College was founded as the Mission Institution in 1883 by the Southern German Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1889 the name was changed to Blinn Memorial College in honor of the Rev. Christian Blinn. Washington County created a public junior college district in 1937 and Blinn College became the first county-owned junior college district in Texas.
