The Uvalde Historical Commission Inc (UHCI) was established in 1969 and is dedicated to preserving the history, culture and heritage of Uvalde, Texas. Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Uvalde has a long and vibrant history, beginning with its founding in 1853. UHCI has been instrumental in preserving Uvalde’s past and helping to ensure that it is not forgotten.
UHCI is a non-profit organization that works to protect the historical resources of Uvalde. Their mission is to promote, preserve and protect the natural, cultural and historical resources of Uvalde and its surrounding areas. UHCI is involved in a variety of activities, including hosting educational programs, participating in archaeological projects, and maintaining a museum, library and research center.
UHCI also manages the Uvalde County Historical District, which is a National Register of Historic Places. The district consists of more than 70 sites, including two churches, a school, a railroad station, and several homes. UHCI works closely with the Texas Historical Commission and other organizations in preserving Uvalde’s past.
UHCI is an active member of the community and is dedicated to preserving Uvalde’s heritage and promoting its future. They are committed to providing educational opportunities to the public to help foster a greater appreciation and understanding of Uvalde’s history and culture.
