The Unruh Family Foundation is a private and non-profit foundation based in Orinda, California. It was established by John and Barbara Unruh in 1987 to provide support to organizations and individuals that work to improve the quality of life in the local community.
The Foundation’s vision is to build a healthy, vibrant and equitable Orinda. The Unruh Family Foundation focuses on issues such as education, youth development, health, housing, and civic engagement. The Foundation’s grants support a wide range of programs, including early childhood education, after-school programs, youth leadership and job training, nutrition programs, and community-building initiatives.
The Foundation also works with local community-based organizations and agencies to increase their capacity to serve the Orinda community. It also sponsors educational workshops and programs to help increase public understanding of the issues facing Orinda and to promote civic engagement.
The Unruh Family Foundation’s Board of Directors consists of John and Barbara Unruh, three of their children and a representative from the community. The Board meets bi-annually to review the Foundation’s progress and identify new opportunities for collaboration and impact.
