OLD SLATER MILL

Old Slater Mill is a historic textile mill located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. It was built in 1793 by Samuel Slater and is considered to be the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. The mill was one of the first water-powered cotton mills in North America, and it paved the way for the development of modern manufacturing methods.

The mill complex consists of three buildings: the original Slater Mill, the Wilkinson Mill, and the Sylvanus Brown House. The Slater Mill is a three-story brick building with a gambrel roof and a wooden water wheel. The Wilkinson Mill, which was added in 1810, is a five-story brick building with a flat roof and a metal water wheel. The Sylvanus Brown House is a two-story wood-framed building that was built in 1758 and is the oldest surviving house in Pawtucket.

Today, Old Slater Mill is a museum that showcases the history of the American Industrial Revolution. Visitors can take guided tours of the mill complex, see demonstrations of textile manufacturing, and learn about the lives of the workers who made the mill successful. The museum also hosts educational programs and events throughout the year, including concerts, lectures, and workshops.
