The Springfield Historical Society was founded in 1976 to promote the preservation of the history and culture of Springfield, Pennsylvania. The Society is located in the Borough of Springfield and serves a population of approximately 10,000 people. The Society's mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the Springfield area.
The Society is housed in the historic Springfield Township Building, a two-story, brick building built in 1853. The building houses a library, museum, and archives and is open to the public for research and visits. The Society's collection includes photographs, artifacts, documents, and other materials related to the history of Springfield and its surrounding area.
The Society's activities include educational programs, lectures, tours, and special events such as the Historic House Tour and a lecture series. The Society also provides educational materials, workshops, and resources to the public. Additionally, the Society works with other local organizations to promote the preservation and interpretation of local history.
The Society is a non-profit organization supported by grants, donations, memberships, and volunteers. It is governed by a Board of Directors, and managed by a staff of three.
