The Ligonier Valley Rail Road Association (LVRA) is a non-profit organization located in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the Ligonier Valley railroads. Founded in 1978, the LVRA has worked to establish a museum, archive, and library dedicated to displaying artifacts, photographs, and documents relating to the railroads of the Ligonier Valley. The LVRA has also established a working railroad, the Ligonier Valley Rail Road, which operates over 6.5 miles of track, running through scenic Ligonier Valley. The LVRA has restored a variety of historic railroad equipment, including steam locomotives, passenger cars, and freight cars. The LVRA also operates special events, including the “Train to Christmas Town” and the “Ligonier Valley Rail Road Festival.”
The LVRA also works to educate the public about the history of the railroads in the Ligonier Valley. Through educational programs, special events, and museum displays, the LVRA strives to share the history of the region’s railroads and their impact on the local community. The LVRA also works to promote the safe and responsible use of the railroads by local residents. Through their efforts, the LVRA hopes to preserve and share the history of the railroads in the Ligonier Valley, while also helping to ensure their safe use and enjoyment by the community.
